I was delighted to see Judex Lefou get off the mark with a wide-margin win at Exeter yesterday, particularly given his ever-enthusiastic owner Steve Clarke was in attendance!
The seven year old was not at his best last season, but had dropped to a decent mark as a result and had run two good races in defeat on his first two outings over fences, finishing third at Ludlow and Hereford in November.
Back from just over two months off, he showed much-improved form at Exeter yesterday, travelling well in rear and making up his ground stylishly on the turn for home. Alan brought him through to challenge at the fourth-last and the pair were soon in control, pulling clear to win by 13 lengths.
The handicapper will now have his say, but I am very hopeful that this success will give Judex Lefou plenty of confidence and hopefully he can continue to be very competitive off higher marks in the coming months. In the shorter term, we’ll look to give him a couple of entries under a penalty next week.
