We won the 3m handicap hurdle at Chepstow on Welsh National day in 2019 with Eva’s Oskar and had the race in mind for Bells Of Peterboro for some time, so it was fantastic to see him record a career-best success with a 22-length win under Alan Johns.
He travelled really well on the heavy ground and loomed up approaching the second-last (usual third-last), still on the bridle when hitting the front at the last and then coasting home in effortless fashion.
He remains unexposed over a trip on heavy ground and the manner of the success suggests that he can make an impression in a nice handicap even when re-assessed. We’ll wait to see what the handicapper does before making a plan, but hopefully he can make a bold bid to follow up next time. Congratulations to his owners Steve Grys and Mick O’Boyle!
