Eva’s Oskar‘s success in the Grade 3 Dahlbury Handicap Chase at Cheltenham yesterday was a huge win for his owners Sally and Dick Prince, and all of the team at home.
He has always looked a classy staying chaser in the making and he was unfortunate to bump into a subsequent Cheltenham Festival winner in Corach Rambler when runner-up at Cheltenham at this meeting last year.
He has looked an improved performer in the visor this year, winning at Exeter in March and again finding only one too good at Cheltenham in November, and after two seconds at the course, it was brilliant to see him go one better in a driving finish, getting home by half a length under an excellent ride from Alan Johns.
We’ll most likely look towards the end of January/early February for his next run, with a valuable handicap chase at Sandown Park on 4th February a possibility, a race that we won last year with Le Milos.
Looking ahead, the plan is very much to prepare him for a tilt at the Grand National, so fingers crossed all goes well in the interim!
