We sent two runners to Stratford yesterday and returned with another double, courtesy of Grand Lahou in the novice hurdle and Rathnaroughy in the novice handicap hurdle!
Grand Lahou had not shaped with much promise on his first start since Setember when returning to the fold at Ffos Las in April, but he had come on plenty for that comeback run and bounced back to form with an impressive win in the 2m novice hurdle, making all and clearly right away from his eight rivals. The form looks only moderate, but in this vein of form he is certainly capable of picking up another of these.
Rathnaroughy had shown ability at home since coming over from Ireland but hadn’t been seeing out his races. Given a short break, down in grade and on a sound surface, he put in a much-improved performance to win very gamely, holding on by a head. He looks to have the requisite speed to cope with a slight drop in trip and hopefully he can follow up next time.
