It has been another fantastic August to date, with five winners in the last three days bringing us to a total of 12 NH winners (and one flat) so far this month at a strike-rate of 36%!
Geminus has been a real improver of late and he won his second start since going handicapping, once again displaying a really good attitude under pressure to win at Southwell on his first attempt at two and a half miles. He shouldn’t go up too far for that and hopefully he can be successful in his hat-trick bid next time.
Next Exit had been in great form at home and, having run very well in defeat on a couple of occasions so far this term, he gained a deserved first success under rules at Stratford, making all and keeping on gamely when challenged. Despite the small field, it was a decent contest for the time of year and he is certainly capable of winning another novice contest under a penalty.
Perth has been the happiest of hunting grounds so far this season and another treble there on Tuesday has brought our record at the course in 2012/13 to an oustanding 8 from 15, a strike-rate of 53%!
Ruttan Lake was very impressive on his debut for the yard, winning easily despite making a couple of jumping errors on his first start under rules for 16 months. He has plenty of entries for the coming week as, though it was a very modest contest, he is likely to receive little sympathy from the handicapper!
Having finished runner-up on his debut for the yard, winning pointer Bingo Des Mottes broke his duck under rules in the 2m1f handicap hurdle, sticking on well to get the best of a protracted duel with the runner-up on what was his first start on heavy ground.
Our final winner of the day was recording his second win at the track this month, Skylancer getting his head in front after the last to make it two from two so far this season. He has been revitalised by a good break and, though the handicapper is sure to make it tough for him, I hope he too can record a third win in succession next time.
