Following placed efforts on all five hurdles starts since his debut over timber last year, there were few horses more deserving of a change of fortune than Beat The Tide, who gained that first success over hurdles yesterday evening at Market Rasen.

Given a fine front-running ride by Richard Johnson, Beat The Tide jumped very well in the main but, as potential challengers mounted up entering the home straight, he looked vulnerable in front.  However, he kept finding and, following a good jump at the last, was always just holding off the persistent challenge of the runner-up.

He should only have a small rise in the weights to contend with and there looks to be plenty more to come from the six year old son of Black Sam Bellamy. Congratulations to his owners the Mount Fawcus Partnership!
