Due to the recent weather we have had to run a few more horses on the flat than has been the case in the past and I was delighted to see Speed Steed make his seasonal reappearance a winning one when taking the 1m6f handicap on the AW at Wolverhampton yesterday.

Ridden by 7lbs apprentice Dan Muscutt, who is attached to Andrew Balding’s yard, he was ridden with confidence towards the back of the field in the early stages, hitting the front only inside the final furlong.  I should think there is more to come from him on the level and we may look to give him another run on the AW before embarking on a novice chase campaign in the spring.
