The Bank Holiday weekend was a real washout for most, but the weather didn’t manage to spoil it for us, with victories for Solaras Exhibition and Hawkhill leaving us just one short of 100 – and rest assured, I am very keen to reach that landmark total!
Solaras Exhibition clearly still has plenty to learn as he was very novicey throughout the 2m trip at Plumpton, but he definitely has an engine and given how well he schools at home, I am confident it is only a matter of time before he applies himself correctly on the racecourse. The win further boosted the 2011/12 record of owner Colin Davies, who has now had 5 winners from 11 runners this season!
Hawkhill had struggled to get home on his debut for us at Plumpton in February but he had been going really well in his work and I was not surprised to see a much-improved performance. He is likely to go up from his mark of 112 so we may look to have him out again in the coming fortnight.
I was pleased with the efforts of Koultas King and of Kack Handed on his seasonal reappearance, while Qoubilai was unsuited by Newton Abbot’s tight bends having been sent off favourite for a valuable handicap chase there on Saturday.
Just in case you are interested in having a runner at Aintree on Grand National Saturday…recent Exeter winner Swift Escape is for sale! Pictured left on the gallops this morning, he is a lovely type with the scope and pedigree to suggest he can develop into an exciting hurdler next season.
