A facile winner on her latest outing at Southwell in November, Oriental Cross made light of a 9lbs hike in the weights and the rise in class when scoring at Sandown Park yesterday under Alan Johns.
The six year old daughter of Cape Cross won a bumper as a four year old, but she is a big, strong mare and she has clearly done well for another summer at grass, this latest win coming off a career-high mark of 115.
Though it was a gruelling finish at the end of two and a half miles in heavy ground, she had travelled sweetly through the contest and I am confident there is a good bit of improvement left to come from her. There are a few possible races for her in early-mid January and we’ll make a plan once her new mark is published on Tuesday. Congratulations to her owners John Durston and Nigel Harris!
