Saint Are has done really well since finishing 9th in the Grand National a fortnight ago and, having spoken with owner David Fox this morning, we have decided to run him in the Bet365 Gold Cup at Sandown Park on Saturday.

Saint Are (Evan David)

He has run some good races in defeat on unsuitably soft ground so far this season and, with the weather looking to stay fair until the weekend, I am hopeful that he can finish off his season in the best way possible!

Recent triple winner Chilbury Hill is also ready to go aagain after a short break and I hope he can pick up where he left off, with a 2m4f conditional jockeys handicap chase at Plumpton on Friday the target for him.  He looks in great order at present and worked with Terfel’s Toscar, who ran below-par at Chepstow on his latest outing but who remains unexposed over fences.

Explained hasn’t yet progressed as we had hoped since a winning hurdling debut earlier this season but he is on a fair mark at present and I hope we can get another win from him before he goes on his summer break.  He was accompanied by Western Prize.  A smart sort on the flat for Ralph Beckett, he is a half-brother to four National Hunt winners and has been showing up nicely.
