|A beautiful morning at Pant Wilkin Stables|
A beautiful autumnal day and a pleasure to get through our morning’s work without rain for once!
We are forecast a few dry days now, which would be a big help as the ground appears saturated just about everywhere at present. Conditions didn’t look too bad at Newbury today though, where Saint Are has been declared for the Hennessy on Saturday, with Dougie Costello booked to ride.
A year on from Beshabar’s 5th in the race, Saint Are looks to have plenty in his favour as he bids to add to his big race wins at Aintree’s Grand National meeting in the past two seasons.
|Saint Are winning at Aintree in April|
The only six year old in the race, horses of his age have a fine recent record – of the last 22 to have run in the Hennessy, three have won (State Of Play, Celestial Gold and Strong Flow, all off marks of 140-145) and six have finished second. It is also a race in which second-season novices tend to do well in so, with the longer trip thought to be ideal, I am hopeful of a decent run on Saturday.
