Tim Vaughan Racing Club

Introduction to the Tim Vaughan Racing Club

The Tim Vaughan Racing Club is designed to give everyone the opportunity to share in the excitement of horse racing, whilst also creating a convivial atmosphere amongst members through days at the races and a busy and diverse Club diary.

The Club will feature a mix of young, unexposed National Hunt horses, together with some fun types capable of winning races for us throughout the year. All the horses are leased to the Club (and therefore remain in the ownership of Tim Vaughan Racing Ltd) so there is no large initial financial outlay, however we hope to have as many as eight in training at any one time, so there should be plenty of action throughout the year!

All the Club horses will run in the colours of the Tim Vaughan Racing Club; light blue with white spots on the jacket and cap, and chevrons on the sleeves.

Saint Are winning the Grade 1 Sefton Novices Hurdle

It has been an exciting time for us all at Pant Wilkin, sending out Grade 1 winners at the Aintree and Punchestown Festivals with Saint Are and Spirit of Adjisa respectively, plus the thrill of Beshabar winning the Scottish Grand National at Ayr. The Tim Vaughan Racing Club gives us the opportunity not just to welcome new faces to the yard, but to invest in bloodstock as we bid to find our next Graded winner!

I am delighted to have rugby legends Stephen Jones and Simon Easterby, together with the famous opera singer and actress Shân Cothi as patrons of the Club in this inaugural year. All three are very well-known personalities and I look forward to their company on racedays, at the Club yard visits and social events – work permitting, of course!

I very much hope that you can join us for what promises to be a very exciting year of racing ahead, and look forward to welcoming you to Pant Wilkin Stables.

Club Finances

Shares are strictly limited to 50 members, which permits us to retain the exclusivity of a racing syndicate, while still allowing a good number of horses in training. The cost of membership is £4,750 for the whole year (until 31st July 2012), which covers all costs relating both to the training and racing of the horses and all social events.

Each shareholder is entitled to an equal 1/50th share of all net prize money won by the Club horses during the year.

Club Manager

The Tim Vaughan Racing Club will be managed by Nathaniel Barnett.

Nathaniel is a new addition to the team at Pant Wilkin and he has a wealth of experience in racing, including as a racing club and syndicate manager.

Nathaniel’s role will include keeping members up-to-date with entries, declarations and latest news on all the horses, hosting the yard visits and organising social events throughout the year.

Joining the Club

Tim Vaughan - Trainer

Since moving in to the newly-constructed Pant Wilkin Stables on Gold Cup day 2008, Tim Vaughan has trained over 250 winners. A tally of 91 National Hunt winners in 2010/11 placed Tim in the top ten of the NH Trainers Championship, and big-race success for Saint Are (Grade 1 Sefton Novices’ Hurdle) Beshabar (Scottish Grand National) and Spirit of Adjisa (Grade 1 Champion Novice Hurdle) have firmly established Tim in the upper echelons of British jumps racing.

Tim is excited about the prospect of a Racing Club that combines days at the races with an interesting and diverse social calendar with events throughout the year.

"The Club will feature a mix of young, unexposed National Hunt horses, together with some fin types capable of winning races for us throughout the year."

Patrons

I am delighted to announce that we will have three patrons of the Club in our inaugural year.

All three are familiar faces to us at Pant Wilkin, and I am delighted that they have agreed to join us for what promises to be a very exciting 2011/2012 season!

Simon Easterby, Ireland Rugby International
Now a coach for the Scarlets, Simon had a long and distinguished career in rugby, including 65 caps for Ireland and two for the Lions. Ireland’s most capped flanker, Simon also captained the Scarlets for five consecutive seasons and played in more than 50 European games.

  Stephen Jones, Wales Rugby International
The second-highest cap holder (and second-highest points scorer in Tests) in Welsh history, Stephen is a rugby legend whose career has included 99 tests for Wales, 6 for the British and Irish Lions, and Club rugby at Llanelli, Clermont Auvergne and most recently, back to Llanelli with the Scarlets.

Both Stephen and Simon have experienced the highs and lows of racehorse ownership with Ski Sunday, who finished runner-up at both the Cheltenham Festival and Aintree Grand National meetings in 2009. Keen racegoers, we look forward to their company both on racedays and at the yard throughout the year.

Shân Cothi, Opera Singer and Presenter
Since leaving teaching to become a professional singer in 1995, Shân has had a very successful and varied career that has seen her perform worldwide, from the Royal Albert Hall to Hong Kong, the Millenium Stadium to the West End, where she played the role of ‘Carlotta’ in a 15-month run of ‘Phantom Of The Opera’ at Her Majesty’s Theatre. A BAFTA winner and star of the hit television series Con Passionate, Shân has hosted her own music series for S4C, as well as a series on BBC Radio Wales. Shân is a very accomplished rider and has ridden out regularly at Pant Wilkin in preparation for Charity races at Ffos Las and most recently at Ascot, where she finished a fine 4th on Tae Kwon Do!
