Two runners at Aintree this evening, with Wings Of Smoke and Hayes Princess.

Wings Of Smoke had run well on both his previous starts for us, falling at Ffos Las when sure to finish in the places before fading late on over 2m6f at Cartmel. Dropped back to 2mf, he put in a much-improved performance to win by seven lengths. The presence of a 120-rated rival in second will I’m sure not be lost on the handicapper, but Wings Of Smoke certainly looks capable of winning again in novice company this summer.

No runners this weekend, but a busy period ahead next week, including my first runner at Royal Ascot with Private Story in the Ascot Stakes on Tuesday.

Though he was unable to win on his debut for us over hurdles, some of his flat form is strong, including a 7th in the Queen’s Vase at the Royal Meeting last year behind the then St Leger favourite Mikhael Glinka. He is in good form at home and I am hopeful of a big run. It’s a new experience for us and I’m sure that wherever he finishes, it will be a very enjoyable day both for everyone at the yard and his owners from Middleham Park Racing.
