Panis Angelicus and Richard Johnson come home clear

Owners Oceans Racing have had plenty to celebrate so far this season and the ex-French flat performer Panis Angelicus made it third time lucky over hurdles at Stratford yesterday to give the syndicate their fifth winner of the 2015/16 campaign!

Settling well in front under Richard Johnson, the pair never really looked in danger and, though the eventual runner-up closed before the second-last, Panis Angelicus is a thorough stayer and he drew right away in the closing stages to win by 18 lengths.

He does look capable of winning another novice hurdle with a penalty, but his immediate future is rather in the hands of the handicapper now and we’ll wait to see if he takes any action before deciding where Panis Angelicus goes next.

Worcester runner-up Beat The Tide

The previous evening, I was pleased to see Beat The Tide (pictured right, enjoying a pick of grass yesterday) step up on his previous efforts over hurdles to finish second (though he would have been third but for the unlucky last-flight fall of the favourite).  Another thorough stayer off the flat, he looks the type to continue to improve with racing and I hope he can make up into a nice handicapper this term.

Our only runner today is another ex-French flat horse in Createur, who goes in the maiden hurdle at Bangor (2.10pm).

photo 3 (1)We’ll have a couple of runners at Newton Abbot tomorrow on what is their feature card of the year, with Shout It Aloud and Lamool both in action, the latter running in the £36,000 2m5f handicap hurdle.

Lamool has been a star for us in the past year and a half, winning four times, including the last twice over hurdles.  He is in great nick at home (picture left, relaxing this morning!) and we’re looking forward to running him tomorrow.
