Though it would be fair to say King Rolfe had endured a torrid start to the season, his career is now very much back on track following an impressive success over fences at Southwell yesterday under a patient ride from Richard Johnson.

Having fallen at the first fence on his seasonal reappearance/chasing debut at Ffos Las last month, an unfortunate incident at the start saw him take no part on his next outing at Chepstow, so it was a relief to see him bounce back in the best possible style, jumping well throughout prior to quickening clear between the last two fences, eventually winning by 13 lengths.

Having beaten the smart but ill-fated Timesremembered on his only start in a point-to-point in Ireland, we had always hoped King Rolfe (pictured right, after winning at Stratford last term) would be seen to best effect over fences, as he has the scope to progress into a useful chaser and I hope he can build on this performance next time for his owners the Four Corners Syndicate, who have been very patient!
