We ran three at Taunton yesterday and, though we were very pleased to see Kalimantan record his second win from his last three starts, I am afraid that we lost Solaras Exhibition, who suffered a fatal fall in the handicap hurdle.
A 9-time winner, Solaras Exhibition had been a stable stalwart for the past three years and it is a great shame for the yard and owner Colin Davies.
Kalimantan provided a welcome boost later in the afternoon when winning the 2m3 handicap hurdle and he is really starting to get his act together now after a slow start to his hurdling career. I am delighted for his owner Dom Wallis, who has been rewarded for his patience this autumn!
Finally, there was a promising run from Oceans Racing’s Time And Again in the concluding bumper, as he improved markedly on his debut at Towcester earlier in the year with a staying-on third on a track that wouldn’t have played to his strengths.
He is from a good French family and looks sure to improve further granted a stiffer test of stamina and a few flights of hurdles!
