Owner Dom Wallis receiving the trophy

Jumps racing back at Chepstow is a sure sign the National Hunt season is ready to step up a notch, so we were delighted to register a winner at their first meeting of the 2014/15 campaign courtesy of Kalimantan.

The son of Azamour had struggled in novice company after joining the yard from France last year but he is a well-bred individual (half-brother to jumps sire Kalanisi) and clearly the combination of a good break and some better ground saw him show improved form yesterday.

Given a good, patient ride by Michael Byrne, Kalimantan’s jumping improved throughout the race and, taking up the running at the last, he pulled clear to win by just over three lengths.

Hopefully there is a fair bit of improvement to come from him and we will look for a novice handicap in three weeks or so.

With the majority of our team still a little way off a run, Kalimantan was just our eighth and final runner of the month, with Solaras Exhibition our other winner.  However, we look set for a very busy October!
