I was delighted to see Ivan Vasilevich shed his maiden tag over hurdles at Stratford yesterday, providing owner Carl Hinchy with his first winner since joining the yard.

A smart 1m2f performer on the flat last year, Ivan has just taken a little time to become accustomed to the switch to hurdling, but under a forceful ride from Richard Johnson (a return to tactics that served him well on the flat), he looked a different proposition and he kept on really gamely to beat a decent newcomer, the pair finishing well clear of the rest.

Solaras Exhibition is thriving at present and he recorded his third win in a row when coming from last to first under Ryan Moore at Chester on Saturday. He will now go for the Listed Summer Hurdle at Market Rasen later this month, with targets further ahead including a £30,000 handicap back on the level at York on Friday 24th August.
