Jean Genie (1)

Jean Genie (Fr)

2016 grey gelding by Turgeon (USA) ex Lady Koko (GB) (Kapgarde (Fr))

This scopey four year old showed a great deal of promise in his native France in 2019 and started out for us in the Grade 1 Finale Hurdle at Chepstow on Welsh National day.  He is a lovely National Hunt prospect and there is just one 10% share remaining!

Seventh on his debut at Auteuil in the spring, he wasn’t beaten too far when sixth on his next start there in the Prix Champaubert, form that worked out very well, with the first three home all subsequent black-type performers – no surprise, given it is traditionally one of the hottest juvenile hurdles of the season, with three of last year’s first four now Graded winners. He finished fourth on his next outing in May, beaten just over two lengths for second (the wide-margin winner finished runner-up in a hot Listed chase on his next start).

He ran creditably on his first two starts over fences, the second of which can be upgraded, as he stumbled on the flat and almost lost his jockey just as the pace was quickening. He jumped very well over fences around Auteuil on his final outing there, but just looks in need of a stronger test of stamina.

We bought one from the same trainer (and same owner) in 2018, Le Milos, who had been unplaced in all five starts at the time, but has since won two for us and looks a lovely prospect for this season and beyond. He came to the UK with a lower rating than Jean Genie and certainly didn’t have the same level of form already in the book.

A first foal, his dam won four times and is a half-sister to a Listed hurdle winner at Auteuil (also by Turgeon), and to another 135-rated gelding. The grandam was a very useful, 140+ rated hurdler, so it is a very strong National Hunt pedigree, headed by a top-class sire and damsire.

I was very pleased with his first run for us and am looking forward to seeing how he progresses in the coming months, as he has the pedigree and physical attributes to make up into a very smart performer in time.

There is a final 10% share available at £2250 + VAT, + monthly training fees from 1st January 2020.
