Hickey's Rock

Hickey’s Rock (Ire)

2012 bay gelding by Westerner (GB) ex Golden Odyssey (Ire) (Barathea (Ire))

This strapping eight year old has solid placed form in the book in Ireland and looks a potentially very well-handicapped individual for the season ahead.

He made a very bright start to his career, finishing third behind two 135-rated performers on his racecourse debut and reaching the first four on his next four starts, including when third behind the now 146-rated hurdler/chaser Robin Des Foret.

His career has stalled since, but a third in handicap company at Kilbeggan in July shows the ability remains and he ran another good race in defeat when fifth at Tramore on his penultimate outing.

He is a very well-bred sort – a €60,000 store, he is a half-brother to two winning fillies and out of a five-time winner, herself half-sister to several multiple winners including Graded performer Bobowen, who improved from a mark of 100 to 145 when switching from Ireland to the UK as a six year old.

Given the form he had shown earlier in his career and still a lightly-raced sort after just 17 starts, his mark could prove to be exceptionally lenient and he is the type to run up a sequence in the spring.

He is available to purchase for just £10,000 + VAT and that could prove to be very cheap when he makes his debut over here.
