2014 bay gelding by Sholokhov (Ire) ex Gaye Melody (Ire) (Un Desperado (Fr))

A gorgeous, athletic individual with plenty of scope, this five year old has shown a strong level of form in Irish points last term despite hailing from a yard whose horses struggled throughout the campaign, and looks a likely big improver when sent under rules later this season.

A son of Sholokhov, whose progeny include Gold Cup winner Don Cossack, he finished third on his debut in a good point in February, just behind one that bolted up on his next start before selling for £95,000 at the Cheltenham Festival sale.  The fourth home won a 17-runner contest on his next outing, so the form looks strong.

He was pulled up on his next two starts, when his yard was out of sorts, but he returned to the sort of form he showed on his debut when going very close on his latest outing at Lisronagh on 19th May, with eight lengths back to the third and fourth, both of whom had solid placed form previously.

He must have an engine to be able to bounce back, all the more so given he is just an inexperienced five year old.  His half-brother Full Cry finished fourth/third in two points but developed into a very useful performer under rules (Graded-placed over fences, Racing Post Rating 143) and his dam is by an excellent sire (Un Desperado, sire of Best Mate and an excellent broodmare sire as well) and is a half-sister to several multiple winners, including the top-class staying chaser Kingsmark (RPR166).

He has done really well for a summer at grass and I am confident that he can develop into a useful level-weights novice hurdler this term, before going chasing in 2020.  At £36,500 + VAT (includes all costs to 1st September 2019), he represents excellent value for such an exciting National Hunt prospect.
