Colonial Empire

2017 bay gelding by Zoffany (Ire) ex Susan Stroman (GB) (Monsun (Ger))

A really good-moving son of the excellent sire Zoffany, this athletic three-year-old was purchased at the Newmarket July Sale and looks an ideal type to start off in a junior bumper in October.

A fourth foal, he is a half-brother to Platform Nineteen, who took time to find his feet at two and started his three year old career off a mark of 61. However, he did nothing but improve and went on to win four times last year, recording a Racing Post Rating of 90 when scoring in good style at York last autumn. The half-sister also got off the mark as a three-year-old, winning by over four lengths in maiden company.

It is a really strong page, as the dam was a thorough stayer, winning at 1m6f and 2m on the flat (RPR83), while she is a half-sister to the top-class, multiple Group 1 winner The Fugue, as well as to classy triple winner Ducab, who was rated 100 at his peak in Dubai.

An excellent sire on the flat, Zoffany has also made a very good impression with his progeny in the National Hunt sphere, notably last year’s 146-rated juvenile hurdler Sir Psycho, while his progeny have an impressive 21% strike-rate in bumpers.

A lovely individual, he has had a very good break in the paddocks since being purchased in July, but will come into training in October and will start out in a bumper in the New Year.
