Mourzouk (Ire)

2017 bay gelding by Declaration Of War (USA)
ex Mouraniya (Ire) (Azamour (Ire))

A really athletic and good-moving individual, Mourzouk has a really classy pedigree and looks to have the potential to make up into a very smart performer in bumpers this season, before going hurdling next year.

His sire has had any amount of high-class performers on the flat (notably French Guineas winner Olmedo and recent Breeders’ Cup winner Fire At Will), but is also 21% with his bumper runners and gets plenty of winners over staying trips.

There is certainly plenty of stamina on the damside of the page. Mourzouk’s two male siblings are both multiple winners, with his City Zip (a much speedier sire) half-brother winning three last year at 1m4f-2m in the UK, while the other half-brother, sold as an unraced two year old at the same sale as Mourzouk back in 2016, was a useful stayer in France, achieving an official rating of 92.

Their dam was unraced, but is from an exceptional family, being a half-sister to two top-class stayers on the flat, as well as three-time Grade 2-winning hurdler Mourad, who was also placed in seven Grade 1s!

We have enjoyed plenty of success purchasing this type of horse, including Point Of Principle and hopefully Mourzouk can follow suit.

He is back in full training after a summer at grass and we will look to start him off in a bumper in October.
