Tight Call

2014 chesnut gelding by Mahler ex Victory Anthem (Royal Anthem)

PRICE: £26,500 + VAT (includes all sales costs and training fees to 1st October)

A really athletic and good-moving individual, this four year old put up a huge performance on his rules debut to finish third in a bumper at last week’s Galway Festival, finishing just four lengths off a Willie Mullins representative that had won his previous start to a very high Racing Post Rating of 126, and splitting two other last-time-out winners.

Towards the fore throughout in a race run in a good time (it was by some way the quickest-run bumper of the week), he looked a little green but nevertheless had all his rivals off the bridle approaching the home bend. Though the favourite settled matters from there, Tight Call kept on really well, showing a good attitude and easily holding off a five year old in fourth, who had won impressively on her previous start.

A son of the excellent young sire Mahler, he is the second foal of a half-sister to three winners, including a four-year-old bumper winner and a Listed-placed hurdler.

His Galway form is comfortably sufficient to win a bumper over here and we won’t waste any time in getting him to the racecourse, as he is fit and appears to have handled the run and the travelling over to the sale particularly well. We have already given him a gentle canter up the gallops and he looks a very uncomplicated individual.

It is very difficult to acquire horses with this profile and I believe it was the fact he was a very late wildcard to the sale that enabled us to acquire him, as he looks outstanding value.

He will start off in a bumper at the end of the month (Worcester on the 29th looks the most suitable at this stage) and we will look to have him schooled up and ready to go over hurdles in the autumn – he has the attitude and athleticism to do make up into a lovely novice this season.
