Prince Charmin

2013 bay gelding by High Chaparral ex Dream Club (Dansili)

PRICE: £2,580 per 10% share, then £225 a month from 1st October

A regally-bred five year old, Prince Charmin’ has a very strong level of form over hurdles and was purchased with a view to aiming him at some valuable handicap prizes in the season ahead.

A winner on the flat as a three year old, he developed into a useful hurdler last year, winning in novice company before following up in a competitive, €20,000 handicap hurdle off a mark of 118, the feature of both wins being the manner in which he travelled through the contests.

He was aimed at a €100,000 handicap at the Galway Festival last summer, but fell there and was given a break after Punchestown in October. He has had three runs back on the flat for confidence, which have served to show his ability remains and he is now ready to return to the National Hunt sphere.

At his best in a big field and when held up off a strong gallop, the son of High Chaparral looks to have all the attributes that are required to make a mark in valuable handicaps. Out of a half-sister to top-class flat stayers Craigsteel and Invermark, as well as the high-class hurdler Hora (herself the dam of high-class hurdler Thomas Campbell), there is a distinct possibility of further improvement, especially given he has joined us from a yard that has a strike-rate of less than 3% over the past two seasons.

He looks an ideal candidate for a freshen up and a new environment and he will come into training after having a fortnight in the paddocks. Having run in mid-July, he shouldn’t take too long to prepare for his racecourse return and I am very exciting about his prospects.
