Lord Fendale

2009 chesnut gelding by Erewhon ex Upton Lady (Lord Upton)

An eight year old son of the US sire Erewhon, Lord Fendale showed a really good level of form in Ireland last summer and looks a surefire winner when he returns to the racecourse for us in August.

Beaten just a length by the Cheltenham Grade 2 winner Peregrine Run in his fourth and final run in bumpers, he bumped into another useful one when runner-up to the smart Tesseract in a maiden hurdle at Bellewstown three starts back, before making the most of a good opportunity to land a 20-runner contest on his next outing, before running to a Racing Post Rating of 122 when runner-up on his handicap bow when last seen.

Given a break for the autumn, he picked up a niggle that kept him off the track until now, but is in fine shape and will be ready to run in eight weeks’ time. A scopey sort and one that is open to plenty of progress, he looks capable of landing a level-weights novice chase and I am also keen to try him in some of the valuable handicap hurdles this summer, as he looks a classy type and I am very hopeful that he will prove to be well-handicapped off his current mark.

Given the strength of the market at present, I was delighted to secure him for just £6,000 + VAT (includes all sales costs) and he could prove to be a bargain, as he is a talented horse with the ability to rate even higher.
