Lauberhorn Rocket

Lauberhorn Rocket

2015 bay colt by Maxios (GB) ex La Hermana (GB) (Hernando (Fr))

An athletic individual with plenty of class about him, this prospective juvenile hurdler is by Maxios, a sire I am very keen on and one that looks set to take high rank as a dual-purpose stallion in the seasons ahead. We also purchased another son of his, Wax And Wane, on the Tuesday of the Newmarket HIT sale and it was very encouraging to see the sire have his first National Hunt winner in France that afternoon (his only runner over jumps there to date). Standing in Germany, his oldest crop are now three year olds and they currently have an exceptional 17% strike-rate on the flat in France.

Lauberhorn Rocket finished seventh on his sole career start to date, over a mile in heavy ground at Leopardstown in April. Four of those in front of him have won since and, considering he was still bang there between the two furlong and one furlong pole, it was a very promising run.

As one would expect from his pedigree, he looks to want soft ground and connections were keen to run him through the summer, but were unable to get the surface they wanted for him.

The Leopardstown run suggested there is a good deal of ability there and his stamina-packed pedigree backs that up. He is a half-brother to no fewer than four black-type performers and, one step back in the pedigree, his dam, a Hernando mare who was herself a high-class performer, finishing fourth in the Group 1 German Oaks, is a half-sister to classy stayers both on the flat and to a five-time winning hurdler/chaser with a Racing Post Rating of 138.

He has a residual level of fitness, having been in light work prior to heading to the sales, so after a quick spell in the paddocks after joining us, we’ll get him fit and schooled over hurdles before looking to start out in a juvenile hurdle shortly after New Year. He is available to purchase for just £10,500 + VAT (includes all sales costs and training to 1st January).
