2013 bay gelding by Canford Cliffs (Ire) ex Mowaadah (Ire) (Alzao (USA))

A tough, classy five year old with proven form under both codes, Landsman is a really exciting addition to the team and looks just the sort to win a big handicap over hurdles in the season ahead. Rated 85 on the flat as a three year old, he had his second start over hurdles at the big Leopardstown meeting the season before last, finishing third behind Housesofparliament (Racing Post Rating 143) and winner Meri Devie (Racing Post Rating 149.

His owners are far more concentrated on the flat and he has established himself as a useful handicapper since that hugely promising hurdles run, winning at Fairyhouse last summer and finishing eight of 20, beaten under two lengths, in a €140,000 Premier Handicap last September.

Two moderate runs over hurdles have seen the Irish handicapper give him a mark of 121, which looks lenient both on the Leopardstown run and on his flat form and, having had an easy time of it this season with just two runs in August/September, he is now ready have a full season in the National Hunt sphere.

He is from a high-class family, being a half-brother to a black-type performer at 1m2f and to two other winners, out of a black type half-sister to the top-class Oratorio. Third on his latest outing in a 70-100 handicap, in which he kept on really nicely from off the pace for a yard that hasn’t been in the best of form this term, he is blessed with a high cruising speed and should be ideally suited by the demands of the good two mile handicap hurdles, where they go a strong, end-to-end gallop.

I am keen to pitch him in some valuable handicaps and we’ll look to have him ready to run from Boxing Day onwards. At the age of just five, he is open to plenty of improvement and he will be ready to start training after a fortnight in the paddocks to settle him in. He is available to purchase at £35,500 + VAT (includes all sales costs and training to 1st January) and is a high-class prospect that I am hopeful can bring us to one of the big festivals in the spring.
