2013 bay gelding by Duke Of Marmalade ex Samora (In The Wings)

PRICE: £24,000 + VAT (includes all sales costs and training fees to 1st October)

A progressive five year old with the potential to continue to improve, this five year old son of Duke Of Marmalade has won on the flat and over hurdles and looks the type to land a very nice prize this term.

Versatile as regards both ground and trip (he has won on good and heavy ground and has form at everything from two to three miles), his close second at the beginning of July on what was his final start in Ireland came behind a next-time-out winner who then went on to finish runner-up at the Galway Festival off a 12lbs higher mark, whilst it is worth noting the third went on to win his next two starts, rising 13lbs in the process.

That career-best effort in first-time blinkers suggests he is on a good mark and, at the age of just five, there could be a lot more to come. He goes well in big fields and the race I will be targeting him at is the 2m5f conditional jockeys’ handicap hurdle at Cheltenham’s November Meeting (Sunday 18th), as I feel a fast pace over that intermediate trip will be perfect for him.

Looking further ahead, there is no doubt he has the scope to build on his four runs over fences and, with a lower mark in that sphere, that is something we can look to exploit once he has won over hurdles!

Given his rock-solid form under rules, I was delighted to be able to acquire him and he is excellent value for such a proven performer.
