Dothraki Prince (GB)
2014 bay gelding by Sulamani (Ire) ex Crystal Princess (Ire) (Definite Article (GB))
A good-moving, scopey son of Sulamani, whose progeny include Grand National winner Rule The World and this year’s unbeaten Grade 1 winner Honeysuckle, this five year old has shown a really good level of form in three starts in bumpers to date, the latest of them just two weeks ago, and looks to have plenty of improvement forthcoming when he switches to hurdles in the coming months.
Third on debut as a four year old in November, he filled the same position on his next outing in what was a four-runner contest at Musselburgh, but the winner looks a top-class prospect, having won two of his previous three starts in bumpers and then winning a 1m4f novice on the flat to a rating of 91 on his next outing, while the runner-up had finished reached the frame in the Listed bumper at Cheltenham on his previous outing.
Third on his most recent outing in what looked a decent bumper behind two Irish raiders (the year-older winner sold for £68,000 this week), he is certainly capable of finding a winning opportunity for his final run in bumpers before switching to hurdling.
He is certainly bred for the job, being a half-brother to black-type performer Harambe, who was placed in the Aintree bumper last year for Alan King and went on to finish second to Getaway Trump in the £100,000 novice Championship final at Sandown Park in April – it is highly likely he has more to offer. Furthermore, the dam is a half-sister to the high-class novice chaser Bags Groove, who won two Grade 2s over fences last season.
Given Dothraki Prince is just a five year old, has a particularly solid level of form in bumpers and a pedigree that suggests there he could be a Saturday horse, there is every reason to expect him to make up into a useful novice hurdler in the season ahead and he looks the type to win his novice hurdles in the coming months before stepping up in grade later in the season. At £47,000 (includes all sales costs, commission, vetting and transport), I thought he was outstanding value for such an exciting prospect and I delighted to have him in the yard.
