HORSES FOR SALE
Cape Robin (Ire)
2014 chesnut gelding by Robin Des Champs (Fr) ex Our Pride (GB) (Generous (Ire))
A five year old son of the top-class National Hunt sire Robin Des Champs, whose progeny include the likes of Vautour, Sir Des Champs and Quevega, this athletic individual has improved with each of three runs in Irish points and, having won on his latest outing in April, he looked tremendous value at just £10,000 + sales costs.
He looked to get tired on his second outing, having travelled well through the race, but he made no mistake at the third attempt, winning a good-ground maiden at Quakerstown in good style, making most of the running on route to a three-length success. It was encouraging to see the runner-up win his maiden on his next completed start.
A second foal, he is a half-brother to Generous Day, who took time to find his feet under rules, winning his first race off a mark of 103 but adding three successes since, the latest of them over fences to a Racing Post Rating of 131 on his most recent outing. There is plenty of depth to the pedigree, as the dam is a half-sister to black-type performers Scavenger and Our Ben, as well as several broodmares that have produced good winners under rules.
Just a five year old, he looks sure to improve with time and a fence, but strongly appeals as the type to get a mark with over hurdles in the autumn, with a view to running up a sequence in the spring. Longer-term, I am very hopeful that he can make up into a useful staying chaser.
He sold at the beginning of the Irish pointing draft at the Doncaster Sales last week and I thought he was outstanding value at just £12,000 + VAT (includes all sales costs, commission and transport), as he looked sure to make at least double that amount. He will have a summer break before coming into training in late July.
PRICE: £12,000 + VAT (includes all costs to 1st July 2019)
