We were delighted to register an across-the-card double yesterday with Honey Pound and Lamool, who both remain unbeaten in two starts for the yard after impressive wins at Wincanton and Aintree respectively.
Honey Pound, purchased privately in Ireland during the summer, was a ready winner on his reappearance at Stratford earlier this month, but he undoubtedly improved on that form yesterday, making all and keeping on very strongly to win by seven lengths. He handled heavy ground in Ireland, so he is clearly a versatile type and he should make a very bold bid for the hat-trick next time.
Lamool won on his debut for us at Ludlow in the spring (pictured right) and had been in very good form at home in recent weeks.
The 2010 German Derby fifth was given an excellent waiting ride by Michael Byrne, jumped particularly fluently and came there travelling strongly two from home, before scooting home to win by 17 lengths. With two class 3 handicap chases to his name, he will now need to step in class next time but looks set for an exciting season.
