We had our busiest day of the 2013/14 season so far on Sunday, with 10 runners across three meetings.  Though we had a few near misses, I was delighted to register a double on the day courtesy of Solaras Exhibition and Sirop De Menthe.

Solaras Exhibition remains progressive and, having suggested he was close to hitting top form when a narrow third at Uttoxeter last time, he was an easy winner of the 2m handicap hurdle at Stratford under Aidan Coleman.  It was a career-best performance and he is likely to be raised to a mark in the low 130’s for that, though I am hopeful he is capable of defying that sort of mark.  He has also been given an entry in the Galway Hurdle, which closes on Wednesday.

Sirop De Menthe was claimed out of an Auteuil juvenile hurdle by Tom Malone for owner Richard Gilbert of Straightline Construction back in March.  Having thrown away his chance by hanging on his debut for us at Uttoxeter last month, he was much better on Sunday, jumping well and scooting clear in the straight to win by 10 lengths under Brendan Powell, who was having his first ride for the yard.  He has the scope to progress further and should certainly be able to win again under a penalty.
