Destroyer Deployed got off the mark over hurdles at Southwell yesterday afternoon, winning the 2m5f novice hurdle in game fashion.

Second in last year’s Cheltenham Champion Bumper, he was a very encouraging second on his debut over hurdles at Newbury in December but had been beaten twice since.

However, he just hadn’t been right on those occasions and had been showing much more at home of late, so we were optimistic of a big run. Though there is still improvement to be made in the jumping department, he has lost none of his ability and hopefully the win will serve as a big confidence boost to him. We’ll look for a similar event again next before giving him the summer off, after which we will look to go handicapping.
