A successful day’s racing yesterday, with our three runners yielding an impressive winner and two seconds!

Destroyer Deployed ran some fine races over hurdles (beaten just 1/2L at Cheltenham last April and third behind At Fishers Cross there in 2012) but he never reached the same heights as in bumpers, having finished runner-up in the 2011 Champion Bumper at the Festival.
Never the most fluent jumper of hurdles, he looked a different proposition on his chasing debut at Fakenham yesterday, measuring his fences beautifully and looking to really enjoy his first outing over the larger obstacles en route to a taking 17 length win.
Though it was far from the strongest of beginners’ chases, Richard Johnson was very pleased with the performance and hopefully he can go on to better things in this sphere, though we will just look for another novice chase next time.  Congratulations to his owners in The Craftsmen partnership.
Robbers Roost bounced back to form on his second start over hurdles with a fine effort in defeat behind a smart novice.  Owned by The Oxymorons (many of whom are also involved with Destroyer Deployed), he showed a good attitude and I hope it won’t be long before he gets off the mark this season.
Our final runner of the day, Nixyba, was having her third start in maiden company on the flat, over 7f at Wolverhampton.  A little keen in the early stages, she kept on very well under Chloe Ingram to finish second.  It was certainly a step forward on her first two outings and she should be able to make her mark in handicap company.
