We have always thought plenty of Dadsintrouble and, a month on from his facile success at Haydock Park, the seven year old son of Presenting returned to that track off a 12lbs higher mark, but once again found the necessary improvement to win, in doing so getting a significant step closer to what we hope will be a date at Cheltenham for the Pertemps Final.
Given a patient ride by Alan Johns, Dadsintrouble could be noted travelling well throughout, hurdling fluently. A stumble four out slightly checked his momentum, but he closed quickly from the third-last and, brought through to challenge between the last two flights, he was in front over the last and kept on strongly to win.
He has long looked a useful performer in the making and, after just nine starts, I am very hopeful that there is plenty more to come. The Pertemps is very much the plan, so we will be hoping he can get in at the bottom of the weights – his revised mark will be published on Tuesday. Congratulations to his owner Paul Bowtell!
