Bennachie is really getting the hang of things over hurdles and the former Southwell bumper winner (pictured right, winning his bumper) made it two from two at the course with an impressive win in the 2m4f handicap hurdle.

Successful over a furlong shorter in a conditional jockeys’ race at Warwick just eight days ago, he once again travelled and jumped very fluently and, as was the case at Warwick, he had just one rival to see off up the straight, keeping on well to score by two and a half lengths.  We’ll look for something in three weeks or so and hopefully he’ll make a very bold bid for the hat-trick.

I was pleased with the runs of Lawless Island (Sedgefield) and Figaro (Southwell), but there was a sad postscript to the day, with Jimbill, a three-time winner under rules, suffering a fatal injury on his return in the hunter chase. Condolences to his owners Martin Moore and Brian Ead.
