Eight days after a taking handicap debut at Wincanton, Be Bop Boru showed he is really getting the hang of things over hurdles with a comfortable success at Newcastle yesterday under Michael Byrne.

Held up in the early stages once again, he jumped very well throughout and, hitting the front near the top of the straight, he kept on very strongly to win by eight lengths.

Yesterday’s victory came under a 7lbs penalty for his win last week, but the handicapper has had his say and, from Saturday, he will be running off a further 6lbs higher mark.  However, he is an improving novice and hopefully he can prove capable of defying his new rating.
