A new recruit to the yard earlier this year, Barntown has looked a nice horse in his work at home and would have most likely made a winning handicap debut at Lingfield Park last week, only to fall at the last. However, just a week later, he made amends in fine style back at the same course yesterday, winning a class 3 handicap hurdle under Alan Johns.
Held up in last, he once again travelled very strongly through the race and had the leader in his sights from the third last, with the rest well behind. Alan bided his time, but joined the eventual runner-up at the second last and picked up really well to come clear by just over two lengths.
A good-looking five year old with an excellent pedigree (his two half-brothers both have Racing Post Ratings in the 140s and have gained black-type this year), he looks a very progressive individual and I am looking forward to running him again in the coming weeks, as he looks the type to pick up a nice handicap in due course. Congratulations to his owners, The Pant Wilkin Partnership!
