We took three to Ffos Las yesterday and Ashford Wood ensured we didn’t return empty-handed, showing good resolution under Richard Johnson to hold off a determined challenge from the runner-up from the top of the straight.

Stamina is undoubtedly his forte as, having been off the bridle turning for home, he galloped on relentlessly to record his first win at the fifth attempt under rules.  With the front pair a distance clear of the third, it looks very solid form and I am confident Ashford Wood can progress further when sent chasing in the autumn.  Congratulations to his owners David and Susan Luke, who were at Ffos Las to celebrate!

I thought that we were in for a quick double later on the card, with Our Island looking the winner all the way up the straight, only to get passed a few yards from the line.  He is down to a good mark and it was a big step in the right direction for him.
