We were delighted to record a second double in three days, with Royale Django and Wings Of Smoke combining at Worcester, both under Richard Johnson, who has now ridden seven winners in the last three days, four of them for us!

Bar a mistakes down the far side, everything went to plan with Royale Django until the final couple of fences, from which point it proved a long way home!  Having taken up the running at the third last, he wasn’t able to put much daylight between himself and the eventual runner-up and then swerved violently right approaching the last, hampering the second in the process.  With Richard doing well to straighten him up, the pair went on to score by 3/4L, though they then had to survive a stewards’ enquiry into the incident at the last.

The race may just have come quick enough for Royale Django after his impressive Doncaster success and, under a penalty and on the fastest ground he encountered, he did well to maintain his unbeaten record over fences.   He is likely to have a quiet couple of weeks now and we’ll look to bring him back for the early autumn.  Congratulations to his owners John Durston and Nigel Harris.

Wings Of Smoke needs things to drop right for him and that was the case yesterday, though he undoubtedly benefitted from a fine waiting ride by Richard Johnson.   Held up, he crept into the race on the home bend and was only delivered to lead after the last, picking up nicely and galloping all the way to the line to hold of the runner-up, the pair 15 lengths clear of the third.   Now a 10yo, he is likely to be raised to a career-high mark on the back of that, but he is as good as ever and hopefully he can go close again next time.  Congratulations to his owners Dave and Jodie Pearn of Pearn’s Pharmacies Ltd.
