The horses are in great form at present and I was delighted to register a second double of the week yesterday with Piment d’Estruval at Newton Abbot and Langley on the flat at Wolverhampton.
Piment d’Estruval has been a model of consistency, boasting an incredible record of having finished in the first three on 15 of his last 16 starts. The form of his third at Ffos Las in May had worked out very well and I was delighted to see him get his head in front again under a fine ride from Richard Johnson. He won’t be particularly well-handicapped over fences after the handicapper has had his say so we will revert to hurdles next time.
Langley had become very disappointing on the flat last term but a good break had obviously done him a power of good as he made a winning reappearance in a 1m4f claimer at Wolverhampton under 7lbs claimer Oisin Murphy. Though he won by 15 lengths, it was very hard work in the early stages and I was particularly impressed by Oisin, who gave him a really strong ride and he looks one of the best 7lbs claimers I have seen on the flat in recent seasons. Just 16, he looks to have a very bright future.
