Our first winner of the new jumps season was recorded in great style yesterday, with Always Archie off the mark over hurdles at the fifth attempt with a 44 length success at Fakenham under Richard Johnson.

Immediately sent into the lead from flag fall, Always Archie jumped well throughout and, with one rival departing midway through the contest, he was always travelling better than his sole remaining challenger.

It was a fine performance and he has obviously improved again on his recent second to a useful novice at Ludlow.  A chaser in the making, I am hopeful there is more to come from him over hurdles before he is sent over the larger obstacles in the autumn.
