Our small summer team remains in very good form and a week after our last runner, Nathans Pride, went very close at Fontwell Park, fellow novice Alphabetical Order went one better yesterday at Stratford under Richard Johnson, getting off the mark over hurdles at the third attempt.
A dual bumper winner in 2012/13, he had shown distinct promise on his hurdling debut at Worcester last October and, off the track for nearly seven months, he was entitled to need his reappearance run at Sedgefield last time.
He looked to have a tough task yesterday, especially against a 1-5 favourite who had won impressively on his latest start, but he travelled well and showed a determined attitude to hold of the runner-up, eventually winning by three lengths.
After just seven career starts, I am confident he can progress further and we will look for a similar event for him next time. Congratulations to his owners in the Great Northern Partnership!
