I have always held Aland Islands in the highest regard and, after a really promising novice season over hurdles, he made the perfect start to his chasing career with a deeply impressive win on his reappearance at Newcastle.

Sensibly kept wide throughout by Dougie Costello, his jumping was as good as I can remember seeing from a chasing debutant and, having moved up stylishly entering the home straight, he kept on really well to the line.  I had left plenty to work with and Dougie felt there was a huge amount of improvement to come, so everyone at the yard is very excited by his prospects this season.

The first horse I have trained for JP McManus, he has tremendous raw ability and I am hopeful he can make it to the very top.
