Having refused at the second on his previous outing at Huntingdon, Lake Chapala’s midweek schooling appeared to have been forgotten as he clambered over the first and then the second at Musselburgh yesterday, quickly finding himself well off the pace.

However, Alan managed to nurse him over the first few fences and Lake Chapala gradually warmed to the task, making ground on the turn for home and coming through to challenge between the final two fences, producing his best leap of the race at the last before going on to win by just over a length.

It was an exceptional ride, and definitely worthy of a ‘ride of the season’ nomination!
